There are a number of volunteer organizations in Canada with the common goal to improve health and social outcomes for people living with and affected by eating disorders. These organizations operate independently with an important focus on different aspects of eating disorders and a unique role to play.
In 2019, EDFC joined with three other organization to create the Canadian Eating Disorders Alliance to produce a joint study entitled the Canadian Eating Disorders Strategy.
Members of the Alliance includes:
Individually, members of The Alliance work: to reduce stigma associated with EDs; improve public awareness: improve education, training and health and social system design; and improve referrals to appropriate care between different parts of the health and social care systems.
Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada is unique among members of the Alliance with both a mission and a location to provide medical treatment for young adults with eating disorders.
National Eating Disorders Information Centre (NEDIC) operates Canada’s only National Toll-Free Helpline providing information on treatment options and/or support to people across Canada either directly or indirectly affected by disordered eating and related concerns.

NEDIC also provides a national directory of 600 service providers providing relevant local resources. www.nedic.ca.
NIED is the voice for Canadian families, caregivers, and individuals who are affected by eating disorders and other co-morbid and concurrent diagnoses. They help caregivers, patients, and practitioners fill gaps in care through education and by highlighting better practices in prevention, health promotion, and treatment. www.NIED.ca .
